The Week of SEND: A New Chapter, A Bigger Conversation

There are some projects that feel like events. And then there are projects that feel like milestones.

The Week of SEND is one of those milestones for us.

What started as the Day of SEND has grown into something bigger, deeper, and more reflective of the community we are part of. Expanding from a single day to a full week hasn’t just meant adding more sessions. It has meant bringing the whole Sunshine Support team together with one shared purpose — to create space for clarity, confidence, and support for families navigating SEND.

This week is a huge undertaking. And we couldn’t be prouder of it.

Built by the Whole Team

Every part of Sunshine Support is involved.

Our advocates have created brand new webinars that we have never delivered before. These are not recycled sessions. They are carefully crafted, thoughtful pieces of work designed to respond to the questions families are actually asking right now.

Behind the scenes, the marketing team has been working tirelessly to make sure the week feels fresh and accessible. We’ve introduced new branding to reflect that this is not just a repeat of what we’ve done before — it’s a new chapter. A new energy. A new feel.

There’s something special about watching an idea grow into something that carries the fingerprint of every person in the team.

A Week Designed Around Real Life

One of the things we’re most proud of is the structure of the week.

It begins gently, with Chrissa Wadlow welcoming everyone live on Facebook and YouTube, setting the tone and reassuring parents that you don’t need prior knowledge to take part — just a need for clarity and support.

From there, the sessions move through the realities of SEND life in a practical, step by step way:

Applying for an EHCP

Understanding expert reports

Navigating refusals and appeals

Reviewing draft EHCPs

Preparing for tribunals

Busting myths and unpacking confusion

Making sense of referral pathways

Hearing real advice in the SEND Advice Clinic

Each day builds on the last. Each session has been designed to replace overwhelm with understanding.

And we close the week as we opened it — together. With reflection, grounding, and reassurance.

Why This Week Matters

SEND systems can feel complex. Processes can feel intimidating. Language can feel inaccessible.

The Week of SEND is about making those systems understandable. It’s about replacing fear with knowledge. It’s about helping parents feel steadier, not louder.

There is something powerful about creating a space where information is shared calmly and clearly, without drama or pressure. Where parents can learn at their own pace. Where professionals can refine their understanding. Where questions are welcomed.

A Privilege to Host

Being in a position to host something like this is not something we take lightly.

It represents years of experience, collaboration, and growth. It represents the trust families place in us. And it represents the commitment of a team who care deeply about getting this right.

The Week of SEND isn’t just a schedule of webinars. It’s a reflection of who we are as an organisation — thoughtful, collaborative, and always centred on the lived experience of children and families.

We’re excited. We’re proud. And we’re ready.
