Frequently asked questions

1. Who is School Avoidance Awareness Week for?

School Avoidance Awareness Week is designed for both parents, carers and professionals supporting children and young people who are struggling to attend school. Whether you're at the beginning of your journey or looking for practical next steps, you'll find expert guidance, lived experience and actionable strategies throughout the week.

2. My child doesn't have an EHCP. Will this still help me?

Yes. Many children experiencing school avoidance do not have an EHCP. We'll explore legal rights, support options, recovery approaches and educational alternatives that may be available regardless of whether your child has an EHCP.

3. I can't attend the live webinars. Will recordings be available?

Yes. All sessions will be recorded and available on demand inside the Academy and SEND Training Institute, so you can watch them at a time that suits you and revisit the content whenever you need to.

4. What makes this different from other training on school avoidance?

This isn't just about understanding why school avoidance happens. It's about understanding what happens next. Alongside awareness and understanding, we'll cover practical strategies, recovery, legal rights, alternative provision, safeguarding, communication, sensory needs and the real-world actions families and professionals can take immediately.

5. Will I leave with practical advice I can use straight away?

Absolutely. Every session is designed to provide practical, actionable guidance. Whether you're a parent supporting a child in distress or a professional trying to improve outcomes, you'll leave with strategies, resources and clear next steps that can be implemented immediately.

6. My family is in crisis. Is this week still relevant for us?

Yes. In fact, many of the families who attend are in the middle of school avoidance right now. This week has been designed to help people feel less alone, better informed and more confident about the options available to them. Wherever you are on your journey, there is a way forward.
